Stories of professions

The personal project Story of Professions by Czech photographer and nurse Jana Stross is a unique documentary series offering a behind-the-scenes look at the hospital environment. Through black-and-white images, the artist captures real moments from the daily lives of doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other hospital staff.She does not depict patient pain or suffering; instead, she deliberately turns her lens toward her colleagues—focusing on their work, emotions, and relationships.Her profession as a nurse grants her access to areas hidden from the public eye, such as operating rooms and the quiet moments of respite following demanding procedures. The images sensitively convey the intense concentration and fatigue involved, as well as the humanity and small joys found on the boundary between life and death.
