WE ACCOMPANY WITH THE ANGEL
...because Dad is not a magician, and a doctor is not God...
As a child, I experienced what it is like to have to cope with the gradual passing and ultimate loss of a loved one and to be left "alone"...
That is why Jana Stross, in cooperation with the Czech Art Photo, to organise a charity event called WE ACCOMPANY WITH THE ANGEL. As part of this even, she created a special limited edition of nine prints of the art photos "Angel", which has received several prestigious photographyc awards.
The proceeds were donated to support the Bereavement Support Centre at the University Hospital Brno. The funds will be used to purchase support items for parents of hospitalised children who find themselves in difficult or crisis situations. The Bereavement Support Centre wants to buy, for example, anti - stress and stabilising aids, comme morative items to provide comfort and preserve memories (such as soft toys, bracelets symbolising the bond between the deceased child and the parent, blankets for the child's funeral) or good coffee, tea or comething sweet to help reduce emotional distress and exhaustion in parents.
Just a few years ago, the idea seemed unimaginable, but today, the presence of parents during the treatment and care of paediatric patients has become quite common. Parents accompany their child during examinations and procedures, provide support during hospitalisation, and actively participate in the recovery process.
Sadly, life can be very cruel, and families of paediatric patients face serious and rare illnesses, severe injuries, health disabilities, or even a serious condition before birth. Parents are often the first to receive difficult news and must remain strong for their child - yet they too often need help and support. This is why the Bereavement Support Centre at the Children's Hospital and Maternity Hospital in Obilní trh Brno exists, offering psychosocial support and crisis intervention.
Parents do not have to face these situations alone. The staff at the Bereavement Support Centre help families navigate new challenges and cope with the initial shock. They provide ongoing support from the moment unfavourable news is received, through long hospital stays, and even during follow-up care. Families also receive support when, despite medical efforts, the treatment of a child is unsuccessful or not possible.
The centre's facilities provide a safe space where parents can reflect and rest, gather strength, share emotions and thoughts over a cup of tea or coffee, and access important information. Simply put, it ensures that in the most difficult moments, parents do not have to be "alone"...
Proceeds from the sale of the photograph "Angel" will help the Bereavement Support Centre improve its facilities and resources, making it easier to support parents in need.
